Winters! That time of the year when your skin and hair need maximum attention and care. The cold weather creates havoc to your skin, lips and hair. Your skin becomes absolutely dry and rough, your hair becomes brittle causing dandruff and hairfall , your lips become chapped and start peeling. To deal with these problems can become a wee bit frustrating. To top it all, spa treatments usually cost a lot and their results last only a few days. That’s where home remedies and treatments come in. They are really pocket friendly and have lasting effects. You can do these in the comfort of your home (and your pjs!) Here are some DIY treatments you can add to your winter skin and haircare regimen:

1. Oil and vinegar hair mask:
Want your hair to look super soft, shiny and healthy? Here’s a simple homemade hair mask recipe guaranteed to give you gorgeous and silky tresses in no time:
What you need:
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil
  •  2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
What to do:
Slowly and thoroughly massage this mask into your scalp. Give your hair and scalp 20 - 25 minutes to absorb all the needed nutrients and then rinse and shampoo well.

2. Cinnamon and brown sugar scrub:
For your skin and face to feel buttery soft and smooth here’s a simple homemade body and facial scrub you should try:
What you need:
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  •  4 tbsp of honey
  • 1/2 tbsp of cinnamon
What to do:
Mix and apply all the ingredients to skin gently. Rinse off in the shower. Not only will your skin feel great but will smell heavenly. The cinnamon… Its like Christmas in a scrub!

3. Lip scrub:
Chilly temps can make your lips chapped and painful. And when you’ve got a flaky canvas, piling on lip balm, lipstick and balm just isn’t pretty! Here’s an at-home lip scrub that will bring your pout back to life.
What you need:
  • 1 lemon slice
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 3-4 drops of jojoba oil
  • 1 tsp of honey
What to do:
In a small bowl, add the sugar, jojoba oil and honey and mix until it’s combined well. Add a few squirts of lemon juice and mix. Rinse your lips to remove any makeup or residue from food and apply the scrub all over, rubbing gently in circular motions. Wet a cloth or towel with warm water and remove the scrub. Follow with a hydrating balm to keep lips protected and replenish moisture. Your lips will be ready for their spring debut in no time.

4. Rejuvenating warm bath:
What you need:
  • Handful of Epsom salts (bath salts)
  • 10 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 1/2 cup of Baking soda
What to do:
Once a week for 20 minutes, sit in a warm bath that contains these ingredients. This combo draws out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones and balances your pH levels. This bath is suitable for all seasons.

5. Cream mask:
Here’s an absolutely easy-peasy mask to beautifully moisturize you face giving it a healthy glow:
What you need:
  • Cream like Nivea
  • 2 tbsp of raw milk
What to do:
Mix the cream and raw milk together and apply on your face and neck and massage gently. Leave it overnight and rinse in the morning.

Quick tips:
  • Do not take hot water baths or showers as it tends to dry the skin and hair. Stick to lukewarm water and keep your showers short.
  • Sleep in satin or silk sheets and pillow cases as cotton ones causes skin dryness, hair damage and accelerates skin ageing.
  • Use sunscreen even during winters.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Avoid using excess of soaps as it dries out skin. Use moisturizing cleanser instead.
